Congratulations to LeRoy Burrell who was appointed to USTFCCCA Board of Directors

The members of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) voted for a new slate of officers to sit on the Board of Directors and lead the organization through the next three academic years, beginning summer 2020.

The membership elected Leroy Burrell of Houston as its new president, following the three-year term of Dennis Shaver of LSU. Additionally, Kari Kluckhohn of North Central (Ill.) was elected as secretary, following the three-year term of Dr. Martha Brennan of Central Oklahoma, and Clyde Morgan of Wabash was re-elected as treasurer.

The trio was the same slate recommended by a nominations and election committee chaired by Connie Price-Smith of Ole Miss, alongside members Mike Mead of Clayton State, Kristen Morwick of Tufts and Mike Holman of Marian.

Burrell, who just entered his 22nd year as head coach of the University of Houston track & field programs, has served two terms on the NCAA Division I Track & Field Executive Committee, most recently as the conference representative of the American Athletic Conference.

“I’ve been a member of this particular organization for the 15 years of its existence and have seen it grow so much,” Burrell said. “Now, I think we’re at a point where we need to continue to grow and make some substantive changes to improve the stature of our sports at our institutions and at the governing level. That’s going to be my mission and hopefully I will be able to garner the support of the constituents here and try to move the sports and our profession forward.”
